Bertie County has been selected to receive awards under Phase 39 and Phase ARPAR (American Rescue Plan Act) of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) National Board Program. The amount awarded is $6,122 (Phase 39) and $18,921 (Phase ARPAR) to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county.

A local board made up of representatives of Bertie County Department of Social Services (DSS), Choanoke Area Development Association of NC. Inc. (CADA), Bertie County government and local churches will determine how the funds awarded to Bertie County are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs operated by local service organizations in the county. The local board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds available under this phase of the program.

Under the terms of the grant from the national board, local organizations chosen to receive funds must be private voluntary non-profits or units of government; have an accounting system; practice nondiscrimination; have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/ or shelter programs; and if they are a private voluntary organization they must have a voluntary board.

Qualifying organizations are urged to apply. Public or private voluntary organizations interested in applying to administer Emergency Food and Shelter funds should pick up an application from CADA at 128 East Granville Street, Windsor, North Carolina 27983. October 28, 2022 at 5:00pm is the deadline for applying for these funds.
